William D. Matthewman is a shareholder of the firm and is both Florida Bar Board
Certified in Criminal Trial Law and A/V rated. Bill leads the Criminal Defense Practice
Group and concentrates his practice on federal and state criminal cases, as well
as on select civil matters. He is an experienced litigator who also represents individuals
who are the subject of grand jury subpoenas as targets or as witnesses, or are involved
in criminal investigations by state or federal authorities. Bill has handled several
high profile criminal cases in both state and federal courts. In 1997, he was awarded
with the prestigious “Liberty’s Last Champion” Award by the Florida
Association for Criminal Defense Lawyers, Miami Chapter.
Bill's reputation as one of the finest criminal defense lawyers in Florida is well
deserved and he appears regularly in complex criminal litigation in both state and
federal courts of Florida as well as in Puerto Rico. Bill’s criminal law practice
includes representation of defendants in all types of white-collar criminal matters,
grand jury investigations and pre-indictment representation.
Bill graduated from the University of Florida School of Law with honors in 1983,
and was Research Editor of the University of Florida Law Review. He has lectured
in the area of criminal law and Racketeering statute (RICO) and other areas of federal
and state criminal law.
Bill is a member of The Florida Bar, the Bar of the United States District Court
for the Southern District of Florida, the Middle District of Florida, and the Eleventh
Circuit United Defense Lawyers, The Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers
and the Federal Bar Association.
