Joel B. Rothman concentrates his practice on litigation matters involving trademark, copyright, business torts, antitrust, patent, domain name, and trade secrets litigation, as well as general commercial, employment and professional liability litigation. A large portion of Joel's practice is devoted to representing nutritional and dietary supplement manufacturers in regulatory matters before the FDA and FTC, and he publishes the Nutritional and Dietary Supplement Law Blog at http://nutrisuplaw.com which discusses legal issues affecting the supplement industry. Joel also represents technology companies in technology licensing and acquisition matters and provides regulatory compliance audits and opinions on information security and privacy matters, including insurance for digital and cyberliabilities, as well as the processing of trademark and copyright applications and trademark practice before the USPTO.
Joel attended the State University of New York at Albany, where he graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1988. Joel received his Juris Doctor, with honors, in 1991 from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law of Yeshiva University.
After working in private practice in Manhattan for three years, Joel became an Assistant District Attorney in the Bronx County District Attorney's Office in New York City. As a member of the Rackets Bureau, he prosecuted felony gambling, official corruption, bribery, and other complex crimes. Joel relocated to South Florida in 1997 and established a successful litigation practice in Boca Raton focusing on technology, intellectual property and insurance matters. In 2002, he became President of Cylant, Inc., an early stage software company. Under Joel's leadership, the company won the best security product award at a major trade show and secured funding from a New York City venture capital firm.
A BV rated attorney, Joel is admitted to practice in Florida, New York and New Jersey and is a Law and Technology Columnist for the South Florida Daily Business Review. Joel is also a member of the National Nutritional Foods Association, Food and Drug Law Institute, Executive Council of the Business Law Section-Florida Bar, Intellectual Property Committee, Business Law Section-Florida Bar, Computer and Cyberlaw Committee, Business Law Section-Florida Bar, South Florida Technology Alliance, Intellectual Property Section of the American Bar Association, American Intellectual Property Law Association and the Computer Law Association.
